Frequently Asked Questions
Using the IUM
What do the different colors of the light status indicator on the IUM mean?
The following table shows the meaning of the different colours of the light status indicator on the IUM. For more details please refer to the User Manual.

How big can I set the IUM size?
You can set the IUM size to anything you wish. However, the actual usable size will depend on how much space the Host Computer has available. We recommend keeping the size below 1 Terabyte for the IUM to run faster.
Why do I have multiple drives?
Because the FAT32 file system is limited by a maximum size of 2TB, the IUM can create multiple partitions to overcome this limitation. Each partition can be up to 2 TB in size and you can create as many partitions as you like.
How can I share files or folders using the IUM Portal?
There are 3 ways to share files or folders on the IUM:
A. Drag and drop files/folders to the Infinite Portal
B. Right click any file/folder you want to share and select "Share on IUM"
C. Use the "Share File" or "Add Folder" button on the Infinite Portal.
Do I have to restart the IUM when I share a new file?
The IUM automatically re-synchronizes itself with the Host Computer. However, some client devices do not read this re-synchronization. In such cases you can manually synchronize the IUM by using the "synchronize" function on the Infinite Portal.
How can I create folders?
You cannot create an actual folder; you can simply share the existing folders that you have on your Host Computer. However, if you wish you can create virtual folders to help you organize your content.
What is a Virtual Folder?
Virtual folders are folders that don’t actually exist on the Host Computer. You can create them on the IUM root directory in order to add files or other folders into them. That way you can organize your content into easy to find virtual folders such as Music, Movies, Games, Work, Documents, etc.
What is the upload folder used for?
All the content that the client sees on the IUM is read-only so that other users can’t alter or delete the files on your computer. However, the Client will see a folder called "Upload" which can be used to write data to the Host Computer. This is the only folder which has write access and it’s mapped directly to a user specified folder on the Host Computer.
What file systems does the IUM support?
The IUM can support FAT32 and NTFS file systems. However, the NTFS system has still not been released. We are working on perfecting this solution and when it does it will be released as a free of share software update in the next few months.
Does the IUM support files over 4GB in size?
FAT32 does not support such files but NTFS does. When NTFS gets released, such files will run on the IUM.
What operating systems does the IUM support?
The Host Computer must run Windows XP, Vista or 7 (both 32 and 64 bits are supported). However a Mac OSX and Linux versions are currently in development.
Can I connect more than one IUM to a single Host Computer?
Unfortunately it is not possible. Each IUM is uniquely paired to only one Host Computer, at a time. This way you can use your IUM around your friends who have their own IUMs and they won’t interfere with each other.
If I pair my IUM to another computer, will my folder structure be erased?
If you pair your IUM to another computer, the folder structure will only be erased from the IUM. However, Infinite Portal will keep the folder structure saved on the first computer in case you re-pair the IUM back to it.
Does the Host Computer have to be nearby to transfer data?
The Host Computer has to be within a wireless range for the IUM to work. It uses the same principle as WiFi between your laptop and your access point does. That means that they need to be within a general distance of around 30 to 100 meters away from each other.
What do the setting "Optimised for" mean?
These are preset values to give you the best performance for the particular device you want to connect the IUM to.
What do the SSID and the Security Key in the Pairing Process mean?
These are the network name and the security setting to connect the IUM to the Host Computer. These values can be anything that you want but need to be unique so no other WiFi device interferes with the connection between the IUM and the Host Computer.
If my media device doesn’t support a specific file format, will the IUM overcome this issue? For example, if I have high resolution movies on my computer and my DVD player does not support playback of this specific file format, will using the IUM make the DVD play this file?
If the media playback device doesn’t support the format of a particular file, you will not be able to play that file regardless of whether you use a traditional flash drive or an IUM. The IUM acts like a traditional USB flash drive so it doesn’t format files or alter content and therefore cannot provide any additional features or functionality to the client device. Playback of the files is handheld solely by the media playback device.
Is it possible to use the IUM directly with a NAS drive instead of a Host Computer?
Unfortunately this is not possible with traditional NAS drives. You must have a computer to install the IUM software onto it. However, once you install the Infinite Portal on your computer, you will be able to stream content from any storage device that your computer has access to, including your NAS drive.
